Medications in School Medication Policies
All prescription and non-prescription medications that are needed on a regular or as needed basis must be accompanied by a written order signed by a physician, nurse practitioner, or dentist. Written parental consent must also be given. Medication order forms are available from the nurse. Medication must be supplied in the original or prescription container. Parents can request two containers from the pharmacist. At no time during the school day should students have medication of any kind in their possession or in their locker.

Discretionary Medications |
Consent for the Administration of Approved Discretionary Medications
The Baltimore County Public School System has a program that allows for the school nurse to administer specific discretionary medications in accordance with established protocols. These medications are Tylenol, Benadryl, Tums, Cough Drops, and Throat Lozenges. These discretionary medications are intended for occasional use only. This service is available to alleviate your child’s minor discomforts and avoid early dismissals when possible. Your consent must be obtained before any medication can be given to your child. The parental permission must be renewed each year.
