Introduction to Engineering and Technology Concepts

Course
This is a one year course for which the students will earn one credit in Technology Education. This course fulfills Baltimore County's Technology Education graduation requirement. The class meets for one 45-minute period every day.

Expected Outcomes
Students taking this course will be able to use problem-solving skills to complete various technological challenges related to core technologies covered in the class. They will also be able to identify and explain a technology systems model. Students will also be able to utilize various machine and hand tools in a safe and correct manner as they conduct their technological explorations.

Course Topics
This course is designed to complement and support the development of skills and knowledge in the areas of math [algebra], science [physics and chemistry] and reading in order to aid students in mastering the skills and knowledge necessary to pass the required MSDE high school graduation assessments and course experiences in the areas of biology, algebra, geometry, and technology education. The course is focused on building technology literacy and the ability to apply fundamental technical, physics, chemistry, algebra and geometry knowledge and skills to engineering problems and business enterprise simulation activities. Course Technology content studies include: historical development; environmental impact and role in society; Core Technology Systems studies; and the structure and functions of enterprises. Individual and group hands-on engineering problem-solving activities are a central element of this course.
