A Guide to Successful Parent/ Teacher Conferences
There are many opportunities for parents and teacher to communicate.
o Teachers will send home progress reports, interim reports and report cards home throughout the year.
o If your child receives a grade of a D or E, you should contact the teacher directly via email, note from home or phone call.
o The teacher can then schedule a conference to meet in person if the teacher feels it necessary.
o If you feel that issues arise throughout the school year that the team should know about, you should email your childˇ¦s teachers as soon as possible.

There are many types of conferences.
o Teachers and parents may conference through phone conversations, emails, and letters home.
o Other conferences include team conferences and conferences with individual teachers.
o Team conferences should be scheduled through the team leader and you will meet with the studentˇ¦s academic classroom teachers. Students are welcome to attend these conferences.

Preparing for a conference:
o Talk to your child about what you are going to discuss with the teacher.
o Next you may want to bring some examples of student work that concern you.
o Think about information that you can share with the team like examples of how the student was successful in prior years and outside interests.
o List any questions you want to ask ahead of time.
o Sometimes conferences cover a lot of material, so the more prepared you are for the conference, the better the teachers can address your concerns.

The team will create an Action Plan. We will discuss steps the student, parent and teacher will do to allow the student to be more successful in the future.

Follow up with the teacher to check on progress.

What do you do when you are absent?
The Student:
• Check the Homework Website or Homework Hotline to see if there is any work you can do while you are at home.
• When you return to school, ask EACH teacher for the work you missed
• Ask a friend for the drills or any other notes you need to get from class.
• Complete and return work to ensure you get full credit for your work.
• Attend coach classes if you have any questions about the information you missed when you absent.

The Parent:
• Send a note to the homeroom teacher including the date, reason for absence and parent signature the day the student returns to school.
• If a student is absent for more than 3 days in a row, you can email the team leader or guidance counselor to get some work sent to the office for you to pick up to complete work at home.
• Please give teachers 24 hours notice to prepare work for an extended absence.
• Check in with the student to ensure they received their missing work from the days they were absent.

What is a Typical Class like?
For many classes, students can expect the followingˇ

Students will write down the daily homework for EACH class in their planner.

Teachers will check or collect homework
