Students in the 4th grade have the opportunity to participate in a unique instrumental music program called Exploratory Music. On a weekly basis, students will have the opportunity to learn about instrument history, sound production, as well as proper playing techniques of the clarinet, trumpet, violin and percussion instruments.
No homework is assigned in Exploratory Music classes however it is encouraged that students expand their musical awareness and listen a new musical piece each week at home with their families. They should try to identify: 1. The instrument or instruments being played. 2. The pitch (high, medium, low) of the instrument(s). 3. The tone color of the piece.
Remember, proper reading comprehension is when you process what you are actually reading. Music is the same! You should not just listen to music and think nothing of it. Process what you're hearing and be able to make decisions about what you hear!
