THEME 2 SIGHT WORDS AND VOCABULARY |
|
On Friday, October 3rd, students were introduced to new sight words and vocabulary for Theme 2. Most of the class completed their "rainbow words" by tracing the letters three times with three different colors and making flash cards. For your convenience, the words are listed below:
HIGH-FREQUENCY WORDS (sight words)
upon in once two what three four five thank
STORY VOCABULARY

Research shows that children need HUNDREDS of exposures for each new word in order to recognize it automatically! WOW! No wonder they need so much practice!
Please support your child's literacy by reviewing these words in a fun and motivating way. Play any board game, but add a special challenge: in order to move his or her game piece, your child must read one of the words on the list above. Or try this idea on those days when your lovebug runs the other way as you pull out the list of words: 1. Write each word in large (lowercase) print on a plain piece of paper. 2. Slip it into a plastic sheet protector like those found in your child's green folder (this will keep the paper from getting wet). 3. Send your child to the bathtub with a plastic bowl of shaving cream. 4. Instruct your child to smooth the shaving cream out on the tile wall. 5. Demonstrate how you can use your finger to write the vocabulary words in the shaving cream. 6. For each new word, your child "erases" by simply smoothing out the shaving cream again!
JUST THINK: You'll accomplish three tasks at once! Your child gets a bath, studies vocabulary, and cleans your tile! |
