Math- We are working on Chapter 5 Two-digit Addition that does and does not require regrouping.
Reading- We are reading the novel Stuart Little. Students are focusing on the concept of interdependence. Students are learning new vocabulary terms, utilizing reading strategies and building their comprehension skills.
Writing- Students are writing their own short stories that include a beginning, middle and end. We will begin our unit on verbs shortly. Students will begin to learn their lowercase cursive letters. The children will learn the Zaner Bloser cursive strokes only.
Open Court- Students are on Lesson 18 of Open Court. Toward the end of January we will begin working in the Third Grade Open Court series. |

Please be sure to update your students school supplies as they begin to run out. Pencils,glue, and crayons seem to be needed most often by our students.

January 21st - Schools closed for Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday.
January 28th- Schools closed for professional development day.

| Students get homework every night in reading,spelling and math. Reading and math homework is collected the next school day. However, the spelling homework packet will not be collected until Friday morning. Students are to put all homework into their binders (in the page protector labled "homework"). Students should be reading for "Book-It" each night and getting their Book-It chart signed by you. This chart is part of their required reading homework! |

Student Binders are to be set up in the following manner: * 4-clear page protectors in the front 1st- weekly behavior chart 2nd- homework 3rd- reading summary/fluency chart 4th- Book-It Sheet(starts in Sept.)
* Morning Work packet * Reading Divider * Writing Divider * Math Divider * Content Divider (science,health,etc.) * Extra notebook paper in the back |
