Hello and welcome to my website! My name is Christina Solomon and I am Special Education Teacher at Middlesex Elementary. This is my 7th year of teaching! I was born and raised in Weirton, West Virginia. I received a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Psychology and Elementary Education from Wheeling Jesuit. I then went on to receive by Masters Degree in Special Education from West Virginia University.

At Middlesex, I have taught Reading, Writing, Math to 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students. During summer school I taught Kindergarten to students with special needs.

The students that I have taught have been in the inclusion classroom and in the adaptive classroom. I have experience working with the learning disabled, emotionally disturbed and general education populations.
5th Grade Students and Schedule
This year I am lucky enough to have my own 5th grade homeroom. The students have been working very hard during these first few weeks learning phonics, grammar, reading comprehension, math, science, social studies, and health.

In reading started the unit of Nature's Fury. We already read Earthquake Terror and Alone in the Storm. All of the stories in this unit will teach us how powerful nature is and how people must cope with its challenges.

We are fortunate to be working with Mrs. Watson a veteran special educator and to have two instructional assistants Mrs. Blazakis and Mrs. Yeager supporting us with the various curriculums.

Our current schedule is
9:05-11:15 -- 5th Grade Reading and Writing
11:15-11:30 -- 5th Grade Recess
11:30-12:00 -- Lunch
12:20-1:20 -- 5th Grade Math
1:20-2:15 -- 5th Grade Science, Social Studies, and Health
2:25-3:15 -- 5th Grade Specials
3:30 -- Dismissal

As in previous years all of our special education students are included for homeroom, art, library, music, physical education, lunch, recess, and science/social studies. Our students are pulled into small groups of 8 or less for reading, writing, and math. This small group approach to learning is valuable for meeting IEP goals and for learning the challenging curriculums.

I look forward to another great year with the students and with the parents. Parents and families are the keys to education and we the school cannot do it without you.
