Welcome to the Reading Room #10 !
A Little About Mrs. Stevens
Wow! What a quick summer it was! My summer was full of travel to Pittburgh, Ocean City, Charleston and San Franscisco. Helping students learn to read opens the world for them. Even if they can't travel to a new place just yet, they can learn about all the wonderful places they may want to travel through good books!
I am looking forward to another exciting year here at CVE working with your children and you! Let's open the world of reading for them together. Check out my links for additional literacy information.
Now, if you don't know me already, here's some information about me...
I graduated from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland with a BA in Elementary Education and the University of Bridgeport, CT with a MS in Reading. Before returning to Baltimore, I worked as a classroom teacher and reading specialist in Connecticut and Massachusetts. After spending time at home with my four children, I began working for Baltimore County Public Schools in 1993.
I have continued my professional training with courses at Towson University, Casenex Online, Goucher College, Jemicy's School for dyslexic students and local, state, and national reading association workshops and conferences. I am still actively involved in the local Baltimore County Reading Council. I recently attended a talk given by Debbie Miller about helping elementary students become lifelong readers. This year I will also be taking courses in Educational Leadership at Goucher.
Working in the classrooms and with small groups of children here at Cromwell is very rewarding. Early intervention is our motto as far as literacy goes. We want students to get the extra practice that they need before they run into difficulty keeping up with their other academics because of reading difficulties later on in their school careers.
If you ever have any questions about reading or your child's progress, please feel free to call or email me.
