email Mrs. Sussman Welcome to Ms. Sussman's website.
I am the special education/resource inclusion teacher at Riderwood Elementary. In addition to acting as a reading resource to the first grade reading and written language program, I am also the case manager of the inclusion students in grades 1,3,4 and 5. I support some of my students in the regular classroom as well as working with our instructional assistants reading specialists and classroom teachers to make the appropriate modifications to best meet our students' needs as indicated on their IEPS. I am also a part of the IEP team as the special education support, and the referrals for assessments of new students and inclusion students are part of my responsibility as well. As the resource teacher, my door is always open to assist all students and parents. Best wishes for a wonderful and successful school year!
First Graders:
I will be serving as your child's reading resource teacher this year. We are always evaluating our students' strengths and needs so there will be mobility in the first grade reading groupings as appropriate to best meet the needs of your child. Early intervention is important in your child's beginning reading experience. We will be working very hard this year on building strong reading skills to increase your children's reading fluency and comprehension. I will be following the program mandated by Baltimore County Public Schools. Our reading program consists of the use of Houghton Mifflin Reading series with Open Court. I will also be utilizing multi-sensory strategies along with mnemonics to assist your children in their retention and application of skills. I am looking forward to a rewarding year with your child. It is a great pleasure for me to see their emotional and personal growth along with their academic progress. Parent involvement enhances your child's learning outcomes so please always feel free to call or email me with any questions or concerns. Watch for the red folders coming home to reinforce homework or to keep you informed of school activities. Best wishes for the best school year!

Homework
Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday. Your child will bring their assignment home in their red reading folder. Please be sure to check their red folders daily for homework and notices. Please make sure your child places their completed assignment in their red folder ready to be returned to school. It is important to start developing responsible homework behavior now so your child can apply this skill throughout school.
I will also be implementing a reading program shortly which I hope will encourage strong reading habits and a love for reading.
Again, thank you for your support. Please feel free to contact me at anytime with any questions or concerns.
