It's Everywhere! Why do we have to learn this is a question most of us have either asked or heard. Let's face it, "because I said so" is probably not the best answer to peak student interest. However, modeling how math is everywhere may help plant the seed that will make your student's math mind grow. The next time you are at your local library pick up the story Math Curse written by Jon Scleszka and illustrated by Lane Smith. After you read Math Curse please think about the mathematics that you encounter on a daily basis and write a math word problem based on your dilema. Then use your math brain to come up with a solution. Add your personal touch because you are the author and illustrator. Turn completed pages in to Mrs. Heise. Parent and Student Activity . . . When you hear the word "math" what do you think of? On a sheet of paper illustrate your ideas. Encourage your student to think about their interest and favorite things and decide how they are connected to math. Making connections can help engage your student and help you to understand their math attitude! Be sure to create a page as well in order to discuss your math connections in the adult world. |
