Reading Reading and Language Arts Online Games and Stories! The best way to help your child become a better reader is to read a variety of books at home and talk about the books with each other.
RED FOLDERS: Your child’s red folder will be his or her READING FOLDER. Reading homework, as well as other papers or forms that relate to reading, will be sent home in this folder. PLEASE RETURN THE READING FOLDER TO SCHOOL EVERYDAY! THANKS!
HOMEWORK: When we switch for reading, your child will receive a homework packet at the beginning of every week. This will include the homework for each day of the week, as well as a list of spelling words. On the front page, please initial next to each assignment that you have checked it with your child. If the homework is initialed, I will assume that it was done correctly. If you have questions, please write them on the packet. The packet should be returned to school on Fridays for review. Thank you!
SPELLING: Spelling instruction will begin in October. Your child will be given 10 spelling words (and 1 or 2 bonus words) to work on in school and at home. The words will help your child review the phonics skill(s) we are learning in class. While spelling is not graded on the report card, we feel it is essential in building the confidence of young readers and writers. Spelling tests will take place on Fridays. During weeks with fewer than four days of school, I will not assign spelling words.
Please read at home independently and with your family! During the school year, your reading teacher will ask you to keep a reading log of books you have read, which will help you earn your way to exciting school events!

Field Trips Explore the Theatre Works website to learn more! Did you have fun at Sharp's Farm? I know I did! I learned a lot about the Pilgrims and Native Americans. I am excited about our next field trips to Goucher College to see books come to life!
