Welcome Back to School!
The start of a new school year brings about many changes for both teachers and students. This upcoming school year is no different. Once again, I am very excited to be working with Deep Creek Elementary and Mars Estates Elementary as a STEM Resource Teacher. I can't wait to work with your elementary students in the area of science, technology, engineering, and math!

As the school year begins, here are some helpful suggestions that will better prepare your child for success:

1. Create a routine for homework completion: Set aside a time (nightly) that your child knows is for doing homework. Create a workspace in your home that allows your child a quiet, well-lit area in which to work.

2. Study on a nightly basis (even if there is no written work assigned). Please review with your student how to actively study because I have found that many students are unaware of how to study. Suggest that your child review class notes, mentally quiz self, re-write notes, make flash cards, etc. Just "staring" at a page isn't going to help.

3. Set a regular bedtime that gives your student time to unwind (by reading!). By going to bed around a decent time, your child will recieve the sleep he or she requires to maintain the energy level throughout the day that is required to give 100% towards learning in the classroom.

4. Have fun! Be sure to incorporate quality family time by playing a sport, taking a walk, or reading a book.

5. Do science investigations at home! Check the school newsletters for monthly experiments that are quick, easy, entertaining, and educational.
