| Guest Readers |
Each year I like to invite parents and other family members to come in to read to our class. The students enjoy having all different people read to them and they love seeing new and different books. I like to schedule at least one reader each week to come in during our reading/language arts block. If you are interested please let me know. |
| Vocabulary |
One school wide goal that we have for this year is to increase the knowledge that our students have in the area of vocabulary. We will be doing many different types of activities in order to meet this goal. We will also be focusing on learning new words in all subject areas. You can encourage this at home by asking your child about the words we are learning and how they apply to situations outside of school. |
| Book Orders |
Each month I send home a Scholastic book order form with the children. These orders offer a great opportunity to increase your child's home library. There are books that address all levels of readers and all interests. Many of these books are very reasonably priced also. If you do choose to order books from Scholastic, please send the form and a check back to school by the date given each month. |
| At home Reading |
You can encourage your child to read at home in order to reinforce the skills that are being taught in class and to increase thier fluency and comprehension. Even though many of the children are reading on thier own, it is beneficial for them to hear what good reading sounds like by being read to each day. |
