November Curriculum Updates
Reading: Students will read and write for a variety of purposes. They will read for literary experience and for information as they read the fictional and non-fictional stories in the second unit of our anthology, Nature Walk. They will read to perform a task as they complete a Thanksgiving craft.

Writing: Students will be writing a friendly letter, as they compose letters to their parents inviting them to visit during American Education Week.

Math: Students are now working on our third unit, Place Value to 100 and Money. After that, students will complete the fourth unit, Mental Math: Addition and Subtraction. In this unit, students will use place value models and mental math strategies to solve two-digit addition and subtraction problems.

Science: Work will continue on the Life Science unit, Exploring Animals. This month the focus will be on the different water and land habitats of animals (Rainforest, Desert, Woodland Forest, and Arctic). We will learn the characteristics of each habitat and design and create our own food chains.

Technology: Students will use the Pixie program to illustrate rural and urban scenes. This month they will also use the every student response program, Turning Point, to review concepts learned in Social Studies and Language Arts, and will continue to work independently on our newest computer program, istation, to practice and be assessed on reading skills.
