My name is Sally Bergen. I have been a school counselor for 30 years. This is my 17th year at Padonia and I am very happy and excited to be back. I look forward to working with our great school community once again. I am a developmental counselor; my services are for all children.
As the School Counselor at Padonia, I am responsible for administering the Baltimore County Guidance Program, which is designed to address three state goals:
• To assist in the academic growth of students
• To facilitate decision-making
• To promote social skills, self-esteem and respect for others
I address these goals in several ways including working directly with students in individual or small group sessions, consulting with staff and parents, conducting classroom lesson and coordinating school wide character education programs.
Children may sign up to see me or be referred by parents or staff.
I am available to consult with parents about social-emotional issues regarding their children, which may include routines, parenting tips, adjustments, friendships, grief issues, study skills and any issue of concern to you, which affects your child’s school success.
One program I use in the classroom is called DUSO, a dolphin, which stands for Developing Understanding of Self and Others, which promotes self-awarenes and social skills.
