Ms. Miller
Welcome to my website. I am very excited to be the Gifted and Talented Resource teacher this year! I will be teaching third and fourth grade GT reading as well as a fourth grade math group. For those of you who don't know me, here is some information about myself. I grew up in Johnson City, Tennessee with a loving and supportive family. I have an older sister, Somer, and a younger brother, Nate. I am an aunt to three beautiful boys; Ian, Camron, and Kylen. I have danced since I was 6 all the way through college and graduate school. I love ballet, jazz, tap, and acrobatics! As my students know; I still dance in the classroom! I am a graduate from the University of Tennessee(Go Vols!) where I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with a focus in Child Psychology. I then moved to Maryland and got a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Towson University. This past May I earned my an Administration Certificate of Advanced Studies! I am now working toward my PhD at Towson Universiy.

This year is a big year for the third graders because they take the MSA (Maryland School Assessment) in the spring of 2009. This test requires students to respond to basic math and reading questions as well as higher level questions which they must answer in their own words. In order to prepare for the MSA, we will be working on many skills that require the 3rd and 4th graders to extend their thinking beyond basic understanding. Please help your child prepare for the test by sending your child to school everyday, making sure homework is completed correctly, and encouraging them to read in their spare time. It would also be helpful if you had discussions with your child about the books they are reading.

This is my sixth year teaching at Middlesex and I absolutely love it! This year will be full of exciting challenges and experiences. It is my goal to help your child be successful in school and to become a more responsible and independent learner. I am a firm believer that parent involvement is key in your child’s success. I feel that parent/teacher communication is extremely important. At any time you need to contact me, you may reach me via e-mail (smiller14@bcps.org), or by telephone at the school (410-887-0170) until at least 4:15.

It is my hope that you will be an active participant in your child’s school experience. It's going to be a great year!!

Sincerely,
Miss Samantha Miller
