Welcome to the 2007-2008 school year at Middlesex Elementary! My name is Ms. Stacy Robinson and I will be your child’s first grade teacher. I am looking forward to a productive and exciting year of learning. In order for your child to be as successful as possible, you and I must work together! Please spend time discussing school each day and making sure your child does his/her homework. Also, please don’t hesitate to contact me with questions, concerns, or offers to volunteer and help!
This year, our goal is to have students learn to read, write and communicate independently and of course, to have fun!
In reading, the students will be learning a lot of new vocabulary words and applying various reading and comprehension strategies in order to decode words and understand the texts. Please read at home at least 20 minutes a night in order to aid this process.
In math, the students will learn addition, subtraction, measurement, time, geometry, money, and graphing. Please take as many opportunities at home to use these skills in real-life situations (ex. ask children to help count change or ask what time it is when you eat dinner, etc.)
In science, we will be learning about the Earth, sky, weather, plants, and animals.
In social studies, we will focus on our community as well as communities in Nigeria and China.
