Room 12 - The Fun Place To Learn
Writing Cafe
Writers Cafe' - Creative Juices Flow!
Enjoy a Tour of Our Exciting Room
We create delicious ?meaty? paragraphs here in the Writers Café. Our topic sentence is the top of our bun, with all the exciting details representing the condiments, and our conclusion is the bottom of the bun.
Construction Zone 2
Construction Zone
You may need one of our hard hats when you enter this area of our room due to all the construction of words and other language arts building that goes on here.
Vowel Tree
Vowel Tree
Ahhh, a tree that gets fuller all year with the addition of leaves with long vowel words that have been spelled correctly in application outside of our room. Whenever a student correctly applies these tricky spelling rules in their daily writing, they can write a word on one of our leaves and add it to our tree. May we fill our room with shade!! (shade - a long a word with a silent final e ~ perfect for a leaf on our tree!) Also, there is a squirrel holding an acorn with a mystery word. When a student matches that word, he/she will get a reward. Wonder what the word is?
CSI - Curious? Solve It!
Mr. Bones
Our own CSI area, which in our room stands for Curious? Solve It! When students are successful during the day they may have the opportunity to help Mr. Bones become whole by adding another bone. They also label the bones. We are all curious to see how he looks.
Mystery Word
Mystery Word
What is our hidden vocabulary word? Only our magic markers will allow it to be viewed. Successful students sometimes have the opportunity to make a one inch (or perhaps a 1 1/4 or 1 1/2 inch) line on the paper trying to locate the mystery word. So far, we haven't located it. Check back to see when we do.
Math Corner
Math Corner - Mr. Gallon Man In Charge
Mr. Gallon Man is inviting you to experience math as you have never done before. Or, perhaps you have and just didn't realize it was math related! Our color coded Hundred Chart is a magnificant learning tool just above his head and all our other supplies - and there are many of them - are just behind the blue curtain.
Delicious Entry
Yes, it is a candy machine
We want everyone to want to be in our room, and this serves as a delicious invitation! For 25 cents you can enjoy a few Skittles or other candy selections. We supply the quarters to students earning rewards and others supply their own funds. The money collected will go to support a need in our community at the end of the year.
Gettin' Smarter
Learning in Room 12
These gentlemen are reading from their Houghton Mifflin anthology. They came in with a smile and left with a bigger smile and a smarter brain! After doing a spectacular job, they each used a magic marker to try to find the Mystery Vocabulary Word - however, no luck! But, boy are they determined.
Mr. Bones updated
Dr. Brianna gives Mr. Bones some more support.
A lot of hard work has been happening at CVE and our "Doctors of Knowledge" have been constructing Mr. Bones. Judging by the rate of his development, one can tell how dedicated to learning our students are.
Mystery Word Update
What is this MYSTERY word?
We have been using our markers with a special formula - measurement by measurement - to try to locate the word hidden on this paper but this one is a tough case to crack. We will keep trying. Check back on our progress.
Outlaw Word Jail
Looking for words that break the phonics rules!
We are always on the lookout for words that break the phonics rules. We help Officer Spelling, who cheerfully guards our Outlaw Word Jail, arrest the outlaw words. Those words are written on yellow badges and placed behind the bars so we can easily see them when we are writing so that we won't misspell them. They are also placed in handcuffs so that we can practice reading them independently.
We always have fun learning in Room 12!
