| Welcome to World Cultures class. This year we will be exploring the regions of Latin America, South Asia, and East Asia. We will begin the year by defining the word culture and examining the role social scientists play in our study of world cultures. In October we study our neighbor to the south, Latin America. By December, we travel to the continent of Asia as we study the region of South Asia. And in February, we will study the "Far East" as we study the region of East Asia. |

Here are a couple of helpful hints for the year...
1. In your binder, you need a section labeled World Cultures. The papers in your World Cultures section will be kept in order according to the dates. World Cultures papers will be printed on YELLOW paper. Therefore, check your binder each night to make sure the YELLOW World Cultures papers are placed in the correct section of your binder. Remember, notebook organization is one of the keys to success in middle school.
2. Homework is assigned consistently. It is usually assigned three to four nights a week including weekends. Parents, please make sure you check your child’s agenda each day to see if he/she has completed his/her homework assignment.
3. Tests and quizzes are announced several days in advance. The format of the test or quiz as well as the information to be tested will be announced several days before it is given. Students can prepare for tests and quizzes by studying their classwork and homework assignments. Study guides are ONLY distributed for unit tests.
