"Jerry Takes Off" and "Tony and the Snark"
We are reading two stories in class that have to do with water! I was a lifeguard/swim instructor this summer, so I have a lot to share. We will focus on SEQUENCE and CAUSE AND EFFECT using these stories.

Homework:
8/28- Get Policies paper signed by parent/guardian.
8/29-Take home "Family Times". (I sent this home too early!)
8/30- write short journal entry on the back of the vocabulary paper using all 5 vocabulary words correctly.
8/31- If we finish everything in class...NO HOMEWORK! ENJOY YOUR LONG WEEKEND!

Week 2: Author's Viewpoint Vocabulary
Selection Vocabulary: (tested)
Abuse: rough or cruel treatment
Dedication: devotion to a purpose
Hateful: showing strong dislike
Hostility: extreme dislike
Prejudice: an unreasonable dislike of an idea, group of people, and so on
Racial: of or involving groups of people with similar ancestry
Tremendous: incredible; extraordinary

"Play Ball" and "Teammates"
Author's Viewpoint is the way an author thinks about the subject of his or her writing.

These stories are both about Baseball. Teammates is about the story of Jackie Robinson's courage to overcome difficulties due to segregation.
