Magnet Programs are theme-oriented programs that provide students with in-depth experiences in a particular area of interest. Students who are eligible to attend a Baltimore County Public School may apply. Entry into magnet programs is assessed by each magnet school on the basis of academic performance in middle school. In addition, the school may assess an applicant via audition/practicum, test, interview, or work sample.
PHMS students most often attend magnet programs in the following areas:
- Mathematics, Science, and Computer Science (Parkville)
- Math, Science, and Pre-Engineering (Woodlawn)
- Environmental Science (Western & Sparrows Point)
- Sports Science Academy (Kenwood)
- Law and Public Policy (Towson)
- Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Multimedia, Digital Filmmaking (Patapsco and Carver)
- Automotive Service Technology, Allied Health, Business Administration Technology, Construction Management, Engineering, Multimedia Communications (Eastern)

Important dates: -- 8th Grade students will receive magnet school information during the week of September 15-18 -- September 22, 23, 24: Magnet Information Meetings throughout the county. -- October 3: Magnet Expo at Timonium Crowne Plaza, 10:00 am - 2:00 pm -- October-November: Middle School Magnet Open Houses -- November 30: Applications to magnet programs are due
