We can all improve our study, memory, and our time management skills! Use the provided tips and websites to help yourself become a more effective learner. Start by choosing only two skills to implement for the next two weeks. Come back when you have them mastered and choose another two, by the end of the year you'll be the Grand PooBah of study skills and the envy of your college room-mate.
Basic study tips:
1. Use an assignment book and calendar. The combination of the two helps you set daily, weekly and monthly goals. They also make it easier to remember when your assignments are due. A fringe benefit is they help you schedule personal recreational time and we could all use more of that, right?:) 2. Convert key ideas and concepts into easy to read notecards. This allows you to use dead-time to review. It also allows other people to quiz you. 3. Study in a regular place, in a position you'll assume when taking a test. A solid chair ata desk work the best with adequete lighting. AVOID YOUR BED! 4. When your going to study stay off-line and off the phone. You only have so much attention to spread around. Soft background music is ok if you need it. 5. When taking notes be sure to include clear example to support unfamilar concepts. Use an example from the book or better yet flex that three pound organ inside your skull and think of your own. Examples help with the application of the concept, an essential ability for answering exam questions. 6. Learn and implement at least two mnemonic strategies when studying for tests on a regular basis. |
