Introduction to Chemistry

In this unit students will use scientific skills and processes to explain the composition, structure, and interactions of matter in order to support the predictability of structure and energy transformations.

Students will study and explain:

-properties of matter,
-measurement techniques,
-how to identify matter.

Energy, Electricity and Magnetism

In this unit students will use scientific skills and processes to explain the interactions of matter and energy and the energy transformations that occur.

Students will study and explain:

-heat and heat transformations,
-static electric charges and the forces between those charges,
-electric circuits and how they provide a means of transferring energy,
-magnetic fields and their relationship to the electric current.

Earth/Space Science

In this unit students will use scientific skills and processes to explain the chemical and physical interactions (i.e. natural forces and cycles, transfer of energy) of the environment, Earth, and the universe that occur over time.

Students will study and explain:

-the components of the universe,
-celestial objects in our solar system,
-major geologic events that are a result of the movement of the Earth's crustal plates,
-changes in Earth's surface.

Ecology

In this unit students will use scientific skills and processes to explain the relationship between organisms and their environment to explain the global impact of environmental changes.

Students will study and explain:

-types of habitats,
-predator/prey relationships,
-environmental impact.
