Athletic Department Philosophy
Interscholastic sports are a “tool” which can be used to teach and practice good citizenship. Participation on any extracurricular athletic team at Dundalk High School is a privilege and not an entitlement right. Any person who participates in extracurricular athletics is expected to represent Dundalk High School with high moral character on and off the field as well in the classroom and community. To this end, we believe winning and losing is important but only when considered in the context of how we play the game and how we represent ourselves and our school under pressure of competition.

Therefore, we believe:

That interscholastic athletics are an integral part of the overall educational program at Dundalk High School. Participation on a team will promote desirable attitudes toward the importance of teamwork and team unity, will promote social growth and maturation of all individuals involved, and will help prepare participants for the responsibilities of adult life. That every student shall have the opportunity to become involved in the athletic program; if not as an athlete, then in other capacities such as manager, statistician, or video recorder. That the coaches and participants should strive at all levels to develop and display the attitudes of good sportsmanship, good citizenship, and loyalty to teams and school. The grace with which teams win or lose reflects the values the school holds important.

Requirements for Participation:

1) Physical: All students must be examined by a licensed physician, physician’s assistant under the supervision of a licensed certified physician, or certified nurse practitioner. The back of the form must be signed, dated and stamped by the physician, and the front completed and signed by the student’s parent or legal guardian. This physical is valid for one year from the date of the exam.

2) Athletic Permit: The “athletic permit” must also be completed and signed by the student’s parent or legal guardian including up to date insurance policy information..

3) Informed Consent: All prospective student-athletes will view the video, "Sports Risks, You Be The Judge." A document will be signed by the student and parent/guardian stating that he/she understands the inherent risks of sport participation. Further, the parent/guardian will acknowledge that he/she consents to participation despite the inherent risks of participating in sports.
(Any parent who prefers to view the video, please contact Justin Nash, Athletic Director, to set up a time).

4) Athletic Department Policy: All student-athletes and parents must sign the "Dundalk High School Athletic Department Policies Form" prior to the conclusion of the first week of practice. This information will be reviewed and reinforced with all students who try out for a team.
