| Honors Forensic Science |
|
|
Forensic science has become a very popular subject recently, especially with shows such as CSI and Cold Case. I have tried to design this class to be as hands on and interesting as possible, however keep in mind it is still a science class. You will not only be expected to understand the skills and processes scientists and forensic specialists use to solve crimes but you will also to be expected to understand the science behind why these skills and processes work. The teaching of this class will use a multi-faceted approach including: lecture, reading assignments, writing assignments, videos, hands on laboratory activities, and tests/quizzes.
In this class you will learn to…- use scientific skills and processes in order to investigate the role of forensic science;
- describe the solution of various crimes during the past and present;
- use the skills, equipment, and technology needed to analyze physical evidence in order to a solve a crime;
- research the importance of physical evidence in order to interpret the sequence of events at a crime scene;
- apply knowledge of evidence and testing in order to evaluate the forensic results of documented criminal cases.

| Please be aware that this is a forensic science course, which deals with the way law enforcement and scientists solve crimes. During the course of this class we will touch upon several mature topics, which may include homicides, serial killers, rape, suicides, bombings, forgery, kidnapping, crimes against children, robberies, and the techniques used to solve these crimes. When discussing these topics, graphic descriptions and crime scene photos may be used. I promise all matters discussed will be done so in a mature and tasteful manner. It is necessary to examine the physical evidence of these scenes to truly understand how scientists solve these crimes. If you have any doubts or concerns about your student being exposed to such material, it may be better to have your student removed from this class as soon as possible. If you wish to arrange for a schedule change, you or your student may contact the guidance counselor for the appropriate grade level. For further information please contact me. |
