Educational Background
I graduted from Towson University with a Bachelors of Science in English. My concentrations were Secondary Education, Literature, and Writing with concentrations in Creative Writing and Literary, Critical, and Creative Nonfiction Writing. I worked in Towson University's Writing Lab for a year as a tutor for college level students of all ages and abilities who wanted to improve their writing. I have taught third, sixth, seventh, and eighth graders, as well as freshmen and seniors. |
| Personal Biography |
I moved here from New York in 2001. I played soccer, softball, and basketball. I was an umpire as well as a player, and I even coached softball for a season at Owings Mills High School. I also played the clarinet (poorly), and am learning to play the guitar (badly). I have two younger brothers and a cat named Frankenstein (a.k.a. Franky). I collect magnets and pins for my classroom from places where I've been, teams I have played against, and places that my family and friends have visited.
I love to read and write poetry and creative stories. Some of my favorite books are the Harry Potter series, the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and the Wheel of Time series. If you are familiar with these books, then you can correctly guess that I enjoy reading fantasy novels. I also love to read historical fiction books. My favorite time periods and places to read about are medieval and Elizabethan Britain, the Renaissance, the American and French Revolutions, the antebellum South, the Civil War, Reconstruction, World War II, and the future. I also love to read about Irish history, ancient Egyptians, mythologies, and pirate lore.
When I'm not reading or writing, I'm probably watching movies or television. I love to watch movies and tv shows that make me laugh. Monty Python's Holy Grail is one of my favorite movies of all time. I am a huge Fairly Oddparents, Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama, SeaLab 2021, AquaTeen Hunger Force, and Venture Brothers fan. I also like Scrubs, The Office, My Name is Earl, and many other comedies. I am a very big fan of Disney and have been to Disney World numerous times. I love the animated Disney movies, the Pixar movies, and the DreamWorks movies. I enjoy just about any type of cartoon or comedy, but I prefer those that rely more upon educated humor than slapstick. And yes, most of those shows that I named do use more than just slapstick humor if you know enough to spot it. |
