Units of Study |
Our reading classes are off to a great start! In language class we are working on Book A. The words we are learning to read and spell in each unit are the basis for vocabulary, grammar, reading, and writing activities in other steps of the same unit. We are working on the sound-spelling correspondences of consonants and vowels; using context-based strategies to define words; generating sentences that present facts; practicing reading fluency; and using graphic organizers to record information.
In Mods 1,2, and 10, our first two units are entitled, "Discovering Ourselves" and "The Living Earth". We are reading short stories, biographies, realistic fiction, textbook and magazine articles, and how-to-articles that require skills such as generalizing, determining the author's viewpoint, explaining cause and effect relationships, and outlining plot sequences. |
